Assignment 3

Executive Summary

The Athabasca Masters of Distance Education program is well-recognized for its in-depth relevancy for today’s educators. One of the core courses in this program is MDDE603 which includes learning on the foundations of learning theories. It is certainly a good course with lots of solid content that helps build informed practioners but it is mostly absent one consideration– m-learning.

Today, 68% of Canadian consumers own a mobile device with 80% of those using it to access online readings (Catalyst, 2015). That statistic alone speaks to the need to incorporate elements of m-learning to ensure relevancy in MDDE603. With that in mind, a thorough SWOT analysis, and our own completion of the course, we bring valid reasons for you to consider as you review our proposal to enhance MDDE603 with the inclusion of m-learning principles.

In our second assignment we conducted a SWOT analysis and discussed m-learning pedagogy and theory inclusion which you can review under our Blog tab. You will also see several recommendations that we made as the result of our analysis.

As you progress through our proposal you will find examples of m-learning principles such as material information chunks, meaningful activities, and intuitive navigation. To that end, we provide a summary of our proposal in the linked Prezi site found under the executive summary tab.  An added benefit of the Prezi material is that it is downloadable for further reading when off-line.

We also provide, for your benefit, a true m-learning tool that can be used to immediately assess and engage the learner on the chunked material. We have used a google form that is easily and fully adaptable to learners’ needs to demonstrate this.

Finally, our posted discussions in the MDDE623 course forum reinforce aspects of not only our proposal but also m-learning principles that will be ensure relevancy for MDDE603.

At the end of your time with us through this proposal you will be able to:

  • Make an informed decision on the inclusion of m-learning principles into MDDE603.

  • Apply m-learning principles to relevant education topics.

  • Enhance an existing course with several m-learning strategies.

Thank you. We look forward to your comments.
